Beagle / Basset Hound : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Medium
Gilbert has arrived! He came from a shelter in the Florida Panhandle. He was attacked by another dog before arriving at the shelter so had some nasty puncture wounds on his back and thigh but the wounds are healing nicely. We can't imagine why another dog would have attacked Gilbert as he is such an easy going guy and backs away from any growling or fussy dogs. Gilbert appears to be completely housetrained. He is so quiet in the house that it is easy to forget he is here! He is friendly with all people and dogs, although hand shy and will dart away until he feels comfortable. When we took him to the vet he allowed the doctor to handpick all the matted fur off from around his wounds without a single whine! He sat so calm and sweet and even kissed our hands during the process. Gilbert has such a beautiful face! He is overweight-but because we think he has basset in him I don't think he is terribly overweight so it shouldn't be hard to get him to lose a few pounds. He DOES need leash training so we have started that. Gilbert rides very nicely in the car. Gilbert is a very masculine pup and will make a great pet for his new family.
