Lancelot came to TBBR as on of three beagles pulled from Polk County Animal Control. It is likely that he and Angel III were litter mates, as they were both owner surrenders from the same address. He was Heartworm positive, he hadn't been neturered, he had kennel cough, and the poor little guy lost his pinky toe nail at some point in the shelter. He also had some lesions that appear to be ringworm :-(. TBBR to the rescue! With some TLC from his foster mom and dad, his kennel cough was quickly under control, and regular soaks on that sore foot have him back to his normal gait. Lancelot did not appear to have spent much time inside a home, as carpet was met with wonder, and he hiked his leg on just about anything. Coming through the doorway was approached with much trepidation. Betwen fear of the unknown and feeling a bit under the weather, Lancelot was very skittish and walked around with his tail tucked the first few days. Every day was progress, however, and Lancelot has quickly learned the routine. He gets excited with his foster brothers for his walk and meals. He has begun to play with toys. Just recently he played a nice game of chase with his foster brother and also pawed at the door when he needed to go out! It was a landmark day in his development to becoming a great family dog. Lancelot has a calm and steady presence. He is so sweet and loving. He really enjoys attention from humans and sits patiently for some love and affection. He behaves extremely well in his crate -- not a single accident, and he sleeps through the night in it without protest. We are so looking forward to seeing his personality develop as he gets healthier and follows the lead of his beagle mentors. Lancelot does well around children, has shown no tendency to try escaping from the yard but would probably follow his strong beagle nose if given the chance. It is unknown how he would behave around cats. Update: Lancelot has put all of his medical issues behind him now and even his pinky toenail is coming back in nicely. As suspected, he has a little more energy than when he was feeling under the weather but I would still describe Lancelot as low-key and easy going. He does have a rather loud beagle howl but it is used very infrequently and typically reserved only for that pesky squirrel that torments him on occasion. Lancelot truly is a gem. He loves to snuggle and relax and he continues to learn the rules of being in a house.
