Beagle : : Male (neutered) : : Adult
Introducing Hunter Hayes! This adorable chocolate beagle pup was confiscated for cruelty and we were asked to take him in at TBBR. The first couple days Hunter Hayes would shake with fear. Car rides were just terrifying for him. Now the real Hunter Hayes has arrived! He has adjusted to his foster home where he is residing with 2 other beagles and learning about toys and what living inside is really like!
Despite his previous abuse Hunter Hayes doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He loves to play with the toys, the other young dogs and the teen in the house. He sleeps with the teen boy and is a very good boy. He has had very few accidents since arrival so we can say he is almost there but will need a bit more house training. He is good in the crate after a few minutes of barking. He does like to bay so an apartment may not be the best choice for him. He loves walks and bays at bikers and pedestrians so we are working on that. Hunter Hayes still jumps up on us a lot and kind of wraps his legs around you for comfort so you need to be able to handle that gently and discourage it. He will need to be walked on a harness due to the previous abuse. He has been thoroughly checked out physically and is good, but the collar walk won't work for now. The foster family absolutely adores Hunter Hayes and can't say enough great things about him. We are looking for a family who is home more than not due to his history, and a family that will be patient and calm with him. Also, we believe firmly that Hunter Hayes would thrive in a home with another dog to help him continue to build confidence.
PS Hunter Hayes really likes stealing socks and small towels and carrying them around.
Update-he thinks eating small socks is fun so you'll have to watch that!
