Rudy: Male neutered beagle, age unknown, probably about 9 years. Rudy is a classic beagle - short, compact, sturdy body; close, hard, tricolor coat; floppy velvet ears; square muzzle; and soft, soulful brown eyes. He came to us the day before Valentine’s Day. He has so much dark eyeliner, he reminded me of the old silent film star Rudy Valentino. We call him “Rudy the Cutie.” Rudy was initially terrified to have contact with humans or strange dogs. He has relaxed a lot, but still watches us carefully, and darts away if we do anything unexpected. He has learned to love snuggling and belly rubs. He gets along well with our other two dogs. He is heartworm negative and has no major health issues that we are aware of.
Rudy has been very quiet and well-behaved. We have only heard him bark a couple of times in the three weeks he has been with us. He is not comfortable on a leash or taking a walk unless the other dogs go with him. He avoids contact with any strange people or dogs we meet on walks. He gets very nervous and avoids us anytime there is any change in his routine.
Because Rudy seems to have a lot of anxiety around strange humans and in new situations, he would probably do best in a quiet household without children. He seems to be reassured by the presence of other dogs once he gets to know them, but would probably also adjust to being an only dog.
