Beagle : : Female (spayed)
Hazel is supposed to be a very small beagle mix. Her stature and face are so small. To adopt Hazel, you will have to be committed to getting the weight off of her. Hazel has already lost 13 lbs.
When you meet Hazel most likely she will be very shy and introverted. She still ducks her head a bit when we reach down to pet her. Hazel is more comfortable with women than she is with men. It is best to let her get a little use to you before you put a lot of demands on her. She does cuddle and seek petting from her foster dad, but she goes to her foster mom first. She is very busy playing with toys. Hazel absolutely loves toys. She will take the toys away from the resident beagle at times, but she also lets him take away toys from her. There is no resource guarding with toys or food. When another beagle goes out, she will follow. In the house, she is often found in close proximity to another dog. She plays a bit with them and we have seen this increase over time. We think she would do best in a home with another dog. She will also follow humans around the house. She likes to be part of the family. Hazel has just discovered a way to get on the couch. She was unable to get up on any furniture until a few days ago. She can jump up on the ottoman and then jump on the couch. Because of her small stature, she has even balanced on the arm of the couch. When it rains she is a bit nervous. She will not go outside in the rain and she will use a rug if she needs to pee. Hazel also does the backward sneezing quite a bit. Just before meals, Hazel does a little dance. It is very cute. She will eat a lot of veggies with her kibble. Her favorite thing to do is lay next to someone and be petted. She will stay with you as long as you want. If you are sitting around and she can reach you, she will bump you with her nose or tap your arm with her leg. She does let you know that she would appreciate it if you did nothing else except pet her. Won't you think about adopting her?
