Ballard is very high energy, so he needs a fenced yard (preferably a tall privacy fence, because he might be able to scale a short chainlink fence if in pursuit of a squirrel) and a buddy (male or female) to run and play with. In the few weeks he has been in his Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue foster home, he has learned to potty outdoors, wait at the door before charging out (still working on that a bit), to come when called (unless sniffing a scent, then not so much), to go into his crate (with a treat), and to give up the squeakers he removes from stuffed toys after eviscerating them.

Ballard is very sweet, but he needs to continue his training program in his forever home. He has a tendency to chew unauthorized items (pens, shoes, dog beds, coats) in addition to his chew toys, and while he is learning to discern the right things to chew from the wrong things to chew, he will need a dog parent who is patient with him and reinforces his behavior when he is a good boy. He is very loving but also submissive, so if he will need positive reinforcement – reward the thing he does well and ignore the behaviors you don't like. Set him up for success by creating an environment that is free from easy access to items that he shouldn't be chewing. He must be crated when not supervised (that means eyes on him) or when you leave the house. He cannot be loose when opening the front door, or he may bolt out (for now), and it is recommended that he is crated in your vehicle during transport.

Ballard has the potential to be an awesome dog and he is well on his way to that.  All he needs is love, support, structure, boundaries, and patience.
