Riley made the long trek to Tampa from a small Alabama shelter with his buddy Pete. They are so grateful to be in the big city where they have the chance to be family pets and cherished companions. Riley is a bit shy and uncertain but warmly up quickly now that he is starting to feel safe. He is just a little munchkin at only 19lbs and cute as a button!! More to come about him as we get to know him better... Update: Riley plays well with other dogs; however, at the beginning he is very shy with people. It took me 3 days to finally get him to sit together and watch TV. He needs someone with lots of patience as he does not get close to people easily and he hides when you try to approach, but when he feels save and comfortable he will start to get closer and closer and even kiss your hand. He is housetrained and loves to smell the flowers… He will be a great companion if you give him time to get used to his new and safe life… We think Riley II will do well in a house with another stable dog that can show him the "ropes" of being a great companion dog!
More about Riley IIGood with Dogs Sponsors: 3m Special Needs: We noticed that Riley II had a slight limp or may hold up his left hind leg, every once in a while, when he runs. Dr. Hay examined Riley II on 2/23/09 and found he has a slight (grade 1) "Lateral Patella Luxation" (loose knee) but did not think that surgery was necessary, especially since Riley II is not in any pain and does not appear to be bothered by this condition. Dr Hay believes Riley II will funcution normally. During the examination we also discovered that Riley II has a slight tibial growth deformity ans has 3 BB pellets in his soft tissue, neither of which is expected to cause him any problems.
